Only use “Debit” if you need cash back at the register.  Most merchants set up their machines to ask for your PIN.  Simply press cancel or follow the instructions on the machine to process the item as a “Credit” transaction. A fee will be charged of .50 for each transaction processed as a PIN “Debit” transaction at the merchant.  This fee does not apply to ATM withdrawals.
