VISA® Check Card
Apply today for the HCCU Visa Check Card to make everyday purchasing easy! The card works as an ATM card, but offers added convenience of being able to use it virtually anywhere. Purchases are deducted from your checking account and receipts are given by the vendor for easy record keeping.
Your monthly checking statement lists every transaction, or you can view your transactions 24 hours a day via Online Banking. Please allow 2-3 days for the transaction to post to your account.
Your HCCU Check Card may be used with no service charges at any HCCU or SRP Federal Credit Union ATM. If you use an out-of-network ATM, HCCU will not charge you a service fee, but you will be responsible for the fees posted on the ATM.
Other benefits include:
- Maximum protection. If your card is lost or stolen, Visa's zero liability policy protects you from paying for unauthorized purchases.
- Those with joint checking accounts can each have an HCCU Visa Check Card accessing that account.
- The money is deducted from your checking account within 2-3 business days.
- Perfect for traveling! Visa is accepted worldwide. Use your card to make purchases in other countries safely and easily.

 |
Point of Sales (POS) fee of .50 cents will be charged if you select "debit" and enter your PIN at a merchant terminal. No fee will be charged if you select "credit" and sign for the purchase. The credit option provides our members with the charge back rights available through VISA. This fee does not apply to ATM withdrawals or E-Checking Accounts.

Overdraft Protection
Mistakes happen. If you overdraw your account, we can help. Apply for an overdraft line of credit and avoid non-sufficient funds fees. Otherwise, for a small fee HCCU will automatically transfer funds from your savings to cover the expense.
For a copy of the fee schedule or to apply for an overdraft line of credit, please see a credit union representative.

Overdraft Privilege
Overdraft Privilege helps protect you against having your items returned in the event of an inadvertent overdraft of your account by giving you a reserve for emergencies or unexpected situations. There is no fee for having this privilege on your account; you are only charged if you overdraw your account. You do not have Overdraft Privilege on your account until you receive written confirmation from us that it has been added to your account.
Here is how Overdraft Privilege works for you. Overdraft Privilege is not a line of credit. However, if you overdraw your account, we have the discretion to pay the overdraft, subject to the limit of your Overdraft Privilege.
For example, suppose you do not have Overdraft Privilege and your account balance is $50. If you have a debit item for $100, HCCU will charge your account a fee (currently $35) for having an item with insufficient funds, and will then return the item if adequate funds aren’t available. In most cases, the establishment where you made the transaction will require you to pay for the item and will normally charge you a fee (usually around $30-$40) for writing an NSF item. This means that you have now incurred two fees ($35 at HCCU and $30 at the merchant) for an item that wasn’t even paid!
However, if you had $500 of Overdraft Privilege, here is how the situation typically would have worked. When the item arrived at HCCU, we would pay the item and charge you the $35 fee for an overdraft transaction. The total charge to you would have been $35 compared to $35 PLUS $30 in merchant fees if you had not had Overdraft Privilege. Additionally, you avoid being added to any bad check lists on the check approval networks or with the merchant.
When you use your Overdraft Privilege you must remember to subtract the overdraft fee from your account balance. In the example above you would have subtracted $135 from your account: $100 (the amount of the check) plus $35 (the amount of the overdraft fee). Any additional items that come in while your account has a negative balance will also be charged the NSF fee of $35 per item. It is important to record these fees. The next deposit that you make will bring your balance to the amount of the deposit minus the amount you were overdrawn (including any overdraft fees).
ATM machine receipts, and other ways in which you can get available balance information, will show only your ledger balance without the Overdraft Privilege included. However, you will be able to withdraw funds from the ATM and have transactions approved for ATM and debit card transactions, even though it will overdraw your account if you have given us prior consent. You must opt in to payment of overdrafts on these items on your consumer account. You will be charged the overdraft fee of $35 associated with these transactions.
Member FDIC/NCUA
Understanding Uncollected Funds
- If you deposit to your account and are informed that a HOLD will be placed on some of the funds deposited, those funds are NOT available for you to withdraw until the date indicated on your notice.
- If an item is presented against held funds and you have Overdraft Privilege on your account, you will be charged a negative funds fee of $35 to pay the item even though you have a positive ledger balance in your account.
- For example: You have $100 in your checking account and deposit a $700 check on which we place a $500 hold ($200 is available to you immediately) for 5 days. Although you have a ledger balance of $800, only $300 is “available” for checks or other debits to be paid.
- If you have a $500 Overdraft Privilege in the example above, you have available to you $800 to pay debit items. However, you will be charged a $35 fee for any debits paid against your account in excess of the $300 shown above as “available”.
Points to Remember about Overdraft Privilege
- Every debit item on an overdrawn account will be charged an OD fee of $35.
- You must promptly repay the amount of the overdraft and any overdraft fees.
- Your Overdraft Privilege will not be included as part of your available balance at an ATM
- You must bring your account to a positive balance within 35 days or the Overdraft Privilege will be removed from your account.
- You do not have Overdraft Privilege until you receive a letter telling you that it has been put on your account.
- You must opt in to payment of overdrafts for ATM and everyday debit card transactions.
Overdraft Privilege Terms and Conditions
You must maintain your account in good standing, which includes at least:
- Continuing to make regular deposits to your account within each thirty-five (35) day period,
- Bringing your account balance to a positive balance within each thirty-five (35) day period;
- You are not in default on any loan or other obligation to HCCU; and
- You are not subject to any legal or administrative order or levy against your account with us.

Credit Life Insurance
Payment Protection is a SMART CHOICE for
YOU and YOUR FAMILY.
|
If you are like most consumers, you probably shop around for
the best value and avoid unnecessary expenses. So if you’re
borrowing money, the last thing you want is to pay extra each
month for credit insurance, right? Think again.
Credit insurance purchased through your financial institution
is an affordable way to get protection from financial
uncertainties should you become unable to repay your loan.
If you plan to borrow money, ask yourself the following
questions about your need for Payment Protection:
- If you became unable to make your loan payments, would
your spouse be able to do so without compromising your
family’s lifestyle?
- Which monthly obligation would be easier to meet: $370
when you’re healthy and working, or $345 (i.e., the cost of
the payment without coverage) if you became unable to
work?
- Do you have adequate savings and/or insurance to cover
current obligations such as mortgage payments or
education expenses in the event of your death?
|
|
The last question is critical – 67% of workers in the private
sector have no long-term disability income insurance.1
The experts are not in agreement about how much life
insurance is enough; it’s difficult to apply a rule-of-thumb
because the amount of life insurance you need depends on
factors such as your other sources of income, how many
dependents you have, your debts and your lifestyle.
Remember that the sole purpose of life insurance is to
replace your income in case you die, so that your family can
maintain their current lifestyle.
Be Smart - Talk to your financial representative today about
how you can protect your family!
1) Bureau of Labor Statistics, 2012
Payment Protection is credit insurance and is underwritten and administered by
Transamerica Life Insurance Company (Home Office – Cedar Rapids, IA), Monumental
Life Insurance Company (Home Office – Cedar Rapids, IA) or in the state of Kentucky, by
Investors Heritage Life Insurance Company in (Home Office – Frankfort, KY). Not for use

Exclusions, limitations and terms of availability apply to this coverage. For cost and

Extended Warranty - Full Open Enrollment!
In addition to offering new, used, and refinanced auto loans, we also offer Extended Vehicle Service Contracts through Vision Warranty Corporation for your auto, truck, or van. Get peace of mind and protection against expensive, unexpected automotive repair costs when you purchase an Extended Vehicle Service Contract.
Buy an Extended Vehicle Service Contract for less than the cost at most dealerships and enjoy:
- Coverage of most major components in the event of a breakdown
- No-hassle Direct Payment: no reimbursement forms
- A one-time premium that may be financed along with your vehicle
Put the brakes on expensive car repairs. A factory warranty may not be enough. Most major repairs occur after the manufacturer's warranty expires. Consider adding an extended vehicle service contract to your loan. Coverage obtained through the Credit Union may save you money when compared to dealer plans.
|
Available Features Include:
- Low deductibles - options of $0, $50, $100 or $200 available
- Coverage for vehicles up to 11 years old with up to 150,000 miles on the odometer
- Bumper-to-Bumper Exclusionary Coverage on vehicles up 11 years old and with less than 100,000 miles
- Toll Free Roadside Assistance
- Toll Free Claims phone number
- Trip Interruption Coverage
- Increased vehicle resale value
- Repair work may be performed by a dealership, franchise repair facility, or an independent repair shop
- Claims are paid directly via credit card
- Service contracts are valid in the U.S. and Canada
|
 |
Why purchase an extended service contract?
Did you know that 81% of credit union members who purchase a service contract will have at least one mechanical breakdown? Extended coverage can help you save money if your car ever needs to be repaired and your manufacturer's warranty has expired. In addition, it could help if you re-sell your vehicle. Pre-owned car buyers look more favorable upon a vehicle that comes with coverage. It represents a vehicle that has likely been well maintained by its owner. Should the buyer of the vehicle decline the option to transfer your coverage, you can cancel and apply for a pro-rated refund.
How do you get an extended service contract?
Contact your credit union loan representative or call Auto Exam toll free at (800) 709-5792 or visit www.autoexam.com for more information on the Vision Warranty Program provided by Auto Exam.

GAP
GAP is Peace of Mind!
Your NEW car becomes a USED car
as soon as you drive it off the lot! If the value of your car is less than the balance of your auto loan, you’re “upside down,”
and there is a gap that isn’t covered by standard auto insurance. This difference requires a
special type of protection called GAP coverage.
If your vehicle is ever totaled or stolen, your primary insurance will usually pay only the
current market value of your vehicle, less your deductible. If the actual cash value is less than your current loan amount, the result could be a
financial gap where you must pay the difference between your loan balance and your
insurance settlement. This could mean thousands of dollars out of your pocket.
Do you need GAP protection?
A car starts depreciating as soon as you buy it, but never more than when you drive
it off the lot – turning it from a “new” car to “used” car. To estimate the anticipated
depreciation and the potential GAP risk, please contact your credit union representative
and ask to receive a GAP Risk Illustration through the VisualGAP system.
Amount
 |
How GAP Coverage works:
Amount you owe on your auto loan: $20,000
Your car’s “actual cash value” at the time of loss: $15,000
What insurance company pays after deductible: $14,500
GAP helps waive: $5,500

Identity Theft
|
Identity theft is the fastest growing crime in America. And, despite your best efforts to protect your personal information, there's no perfect defense. If you do fall prey to identity theft, time and expertise are of the essence—thieves count on a victim's slow response. Understandably, most identity theft victims feel helpless, angry and overwhelmed when they first learn that their lives and livelihood are under attack. They have no idea how to resolve their situation or where to turn for guidance.
If You're A Victim. . . Contact us immediately at any of our branches to report any fraudulent charges.
Stay Educated. . . The best defense against identity theft is awareness. Please see below for some additional resources to help you protect yourself and your family.

Phishing
|
Don't Get Lured In by Phishing Scamsters!
If you receive an e-mail such as this, please do not respond.
Hundreds of consumers have found themselves the victims of an e-mail scam known as "phishing." It involves high-tech fraudsters who pretend to be a legitimate financial institution or credit card company. Hiding behind the anonymity of the Internet, the fraudsters send out "official-looking" e-mails designed to trick consumers into divulging financial and personal information such as account numbers, passwords, user names, Social Security Numbers, and other sensitive data. In most cases, the e-mail claims there is an account problem or warns of a possible account fraud threat. Either way—the whole idea is to convince the consumer there is an immediate need to update their financial information.
If you receive an e-mail from HCCU requesting financial information or any other personal or sensitive data:
|
 |
-
Do not reply to the e-mail or respond by clicking on a link within the e-mail message. HCCU will never ask you to provide any kind of confidential or financial details via an e-mail request.
-
Treat the e-mail with suspicion.
-
Contact HCCU as soon as possible to report the suspicious e-mail.

Your Visa® Check Card looks like a credit card and acts like a check. With one swipe of your card, your money will be automatically deducted from your HCCU checking account.
The Best Way To Pay the Easy Way
Even though you're not using a credit card, press "credit" when making purchases! Here's why:

Funds are still deducted from your checking account.
-
You won't have to enter your PIN in public.
-
Charge-back protection with "credit" makes it easier to get refunds on previously purchased items.
-
You'll receive maximum purchase protection against fraud.

Only use "Debit" if you need cash back at the register. Most merchants set up their machines to ask for your PIN. Simply press cancel or follow the instructions on the machine to process the item as a "Credit" transaction. A fee will be charged of .50 for each transaction processed as a PIN "Debit" transaction at the merchant. This fee does not apply to ATM withdrawals.
