Thanks for asking for more information about Health Center Credit Union (HCCU). We are not a bank, 'savings and loan' or a brokerage house. We are a state chartered, federally insured, credit union. If you are not a credit union member, scroll down to the bottom of this page to view the section titled 'What is a Credit Union' and experience the world of difference credit unions have to offer. Our HistoryIn 1976 Health Center Credit Union (HCCU), was chartered by the Georgia Department of Banking and Finance. HCCU opened its first office in the Murphy Building at the Medical College of Georgia (GRU). Branch two was opened in 1987 at St. Joseph Hospital (Trinity Hospital) and branch three followed that same year at Augusta State University (GRU). With the addition of the MCG (GRU) Annex and Evans offices, we have 5 locations in Richmond and Columbia Counties to serve our members. Our MissionTo provide competitive, friendly, convenient financial services to the membership in a fiscally responsible manner. Our VisionTo insure quality service to every member. Make loans to our members in an expeditious manner. Safeguard the financial future of our members by continually educating them on our products and services. To provide a challenging and rewarding work environment that fosters teamwork and friendship among the staff. And to maintain adequate earnings to support our growth while paying competitive dividends to our members. What is a Credit Union?Credit unions are not-for-profit member-owned financial institutions operated for the benefit of its membership. According to the treasurer of a Midwestern credit union after the Depression, credit unions were "not for profit, not for charity, but for service" which is still true today. Credit unions offer reduced loan rates, pay higher dividends on savings and additional earnings are redistributed to members in the form of new products and services. Membership eligibility requirements are contained in the credit union's charter, and the volunteer board of directors are elected from the field of membership.
